News From Committee 21

Wellesley Town Meeting votes to approve FY15 Budget as presented.  Debate began on the town budget and potential override on Tuesday, April 1. Two subsequent amendments – one to reduce the school budget by $537K and another to reduce various line items, including the schools, by a total of $3.345M – were both voted down by Town Meeting members. On April 7, Town Meeting approved the FY15 budget by a large majority.
The next step will be to present town voters with a ballot question, asking their consent to override Proposition 2-1/2 to raise the $3.345M necessary to fund the approved town budget.  This will happen in late May.
Many thanks to all those who were engaged in the budget process, from attending meetings to learn about the issues, contacting their Town Meeting members to express their views and to staying informed about the schools and other town departments.
What’s next?  A ballot-question committee “Yes for Wellesley 2014” has been formed to support the schools and will be working with school and community supporters over the next weeks to answer questions and encourage voters to vote YES for the override.  More information about registering to vote, absentee ballots, and which programs will be directly impacted by the override vote will continue to be sent out by this committee.

How do I register to vote in Wellesley?
